On and Off Road Safety and Laws
IMPORTANT!
Please check with local laws and regulations before purchasing this vehicle. Any age recommendation is solely a recommendation; final responsibility lies with the parents or guardians. Make sure to always wear protective gear when riding. These vehicles are intended for recreation but must be handled with responsibility and care. The operator must always be aware of riding safely while still having a good time.

General Safety Tips:
UTVs, ATVs, Go-Karts, Dirt Bikes and Scooters have become more and more popular the past few years, they allowed us to zip around the woods and fields, towns and cities. And what else has been able to get kids away from TV sets and video games, and get them to get outside and be physically active?

Unfortunately, there is a downside. We have seen an alarmingly number of motor vehicle related injuries popping up in emergency rooms around the world. The vast majority of these accidents involve children under the age of 15. And worst of all, with but a little attention paid to basic safety, the vast majority of those mishaps could and would have been prevented.

The fact is, motorized vehicles are like any other piece of sporting equipment, they can be used and used safely, but you need to take proper precautions. Here are a few guidelines for safety that everyone should obey:

1. Always wear safety gear: Helmet, Goggles, Gloves, Chest Protector, Elbow Pads and Knee Pads. This is a small investment, but necessary- only about $40 plus can eliminate almost two-thirds of injuries caused by motorized vehicle accidents. In many states, provinces and regions throughout the world, these are required by law! And I don't know how many times my chest protector saved me from a rock being thrown from tires of the rider in front of me or a branch hitting me in the chest.

2. Always ride your motorized vehicle during the daytime if there are no headlights. When it is dark out, slow your speed down. Don't drive faster than you can stop or maneuver safely. There are just too many things that you can't see at night that can easily upset your balance and cause you to fall or that you can run into.

3. Motor vehicles are not toys! Children who are under sixteen should always be supervised when riding. A third of all related injuries and accidents involve children under the age of eight. As everyone knows, motor vehicle are capable of accelerating very quickly, and children that age do not always have the judgment, strength or coordination to handle motor vehicles at high speeds.

4. With non licensed motor vehicles, always ride Off-Road! Stay away from all cars and any other vehicles. Cars and ATVs don't mix, especially for younger riders who don't know the rules fof the road. Smooth, paved surfaces are best or younger riders provided they are whereing the proper saftey equipment. (Remember... rule number one?) Avoid bumpy, uneven, wet or rocky ones. School yards, parks, paved trails are examples of safe places to ride. However make sure you are allowed to ride there first get permission from the owner. You don't want a ticket or have your vechicle impounded. Check with your state and see about insurance for your vechicle. In New York State you have to have your vehicle licensed and insured to be able to drive on limited access roads. Until they become confident, stay away from Sand, Gravel, Water and Dirt – Try to keep your vehicle on smooth surfaces.

5. Always observe the basic rules of the road. As these vehicles can travel as fast as many other types of vehicles, motorized and non-motorized, you too must observe the rules of the road. These include:

Stop at every stop sign. Look left, right, and left again before proceeding.

Stop at the end of the driveway. Look left, right, and left before entering the street.

Use proper hand signals.

Obey traffic signs and signals.

When crossing a road with a non road licensed vehicle most states you are required to get off and push it across the road. Check with your state or country.

MECHANICAL TIPS:
Check all joints, hinges and quick releases to ensure the vehicle is properly assembled. Stop using the vehicle immediately if any joint, hinge, or quick release becomes loose. Correct the looseness prior to resuming the ride.

Maintain proper air pressure in the tires. Low air pressure induces extra rolling friction, reduces ground clearance, and wears the tires quicker. And can also cause the vehicle to "pull" (turn) in one direction or the other or cause the the vehicle to handle drastically different.

If the brake lever(s) touches the handlebar grip or the foot pedal goes to the floor or hits the stop, stop use of the vehicle until the lever is adjusted or the brakes are restored to proper operation.

Check all motor fluids. A seized engine can throw you off the vehicle or cause you to lose control and crash.

With hydraulic brakes check the fluid levels and test before riding. Nothing and be more scary than needing to stop and finding out there are no brakes. Especially coming down steep hills.
